What You'll Learn
Our curriculum is designed to broaden your horizons and deepen your understanding of critical service design concepts. Here are some of the key modules you'll explore:
Strategy and Value Creation: Successfully operating as a service designer - especially within larger organizations - means knowing how to integrate strategic approaches within your wor
k, aligning your work with organizational strategy and letting both influence each other. In addition, you'll learn how to find the most promising opportunities for delivering additional value through the services you design. (Taught by Chris Ferguson)
Mastering Creative Facilitation: Learn how to craft and facilitate a successful creative session as a service designer, by gaining knowledge on tooling, group dynamics, interdisciplinary teams and managing different ‘hats’. (Taught by Julia Alberga)
Designing Services with AI: As with other disciplines both within and outside the creative fields, AI is having a great impact on the practice of service design. In this module you'll learn some AI fundamentals, as well as advice for where AI should (and should not) be applied, both in the creation of services as well as their delivery. (Taught by Mauro Rego)
Systems Thinking and Designing for Sustainability: Knowing how to apply basic systems thinking principles will help you tackle the complex problems you may be faced with in your day-to-day work. Drawing from his standalone SDN Academy course on this topic, Arash will introduce models and canvases that will help you adopt a systemic perspective. (Taught by Dr Arash Golnam)
Designing Ventures: Innovation and Start-ups: While the majority of service designers typically work in larger, established organizations, with some adaptations, we can add unique value within start-ups and venture-type contexts, such as innovation labs. Learn how a mix of service design, business design and techniques from the start-up world can help you bring small-scale projects to success, from the ground up. (Taught by Jesse Grimes)
Prototyping and Successful Implementation: Explore how to set-up and create prototypes for multi-touchpoint services with a focus on understanding the why of prototypes to ensure you get useful and usable answers to inform future iterations. (Taught by Dr Andy Polaine)
Leading Teams and Organizational Change: Two distinct topic areas that nonetheless end up influencing each other in practice, organizational change and leadership are key aspects to focus on when pushing your career forwards as a service designer. In this module, Dr Tina Weisser will equip you to not only navigate the challenges of achieving organizational change, but also equip you to take on and succeed in a leadership role yourself. (Taught by Dr Tina Weisser)
Pitching, Selling and Getting Buy-In: A great idea goes nowhere if nobody understands it. Learn storytelling fundamentals to shape proposals, presentations, and pitches, using design examples, frameworks, and practical tips for daily work. (Taught by Dr Andy Polaine)
